The further exploits of the big-game hunter and intrepid explorer introduced to readers in H. Rider Haggard’s King Solomon’s Mines. Set in Africa, Allan Quatermmain and the Lost City of Gold meets the high standards for an adventure novel set by that first book. Allan must postpone his wedding to rescue his brother, who has been tacking a lost white tribe. Allan’s travels take him through dangerous jungles and to a mythical city where the streets are paved in gold.

Unlike the Haggard classics King Solomon’s Mines and She, Allan Quatermain was not so frequently adapted to the Silver Screen. Hollywood sought to rectify the situation in 1987, when Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone starred in a campy version which aimed to recreate the fun and adventure of the original tale.

H. Rider Hggard (1856-1925) has thrilled generation after generation of readers with popular stories set in exotic locales all over the world. Haggard drew on his rich experiences in the colonial service in Africa to write some of literature’s greatest adventure novels.
